This concert is an official event of the Polish Presidency to the EU and will showcase the gems of Polish classical music, including:

• • An Overture by Poland’s former Prime Minister Paderewski, who was key in securing Poland’s independence after World War I;

• • An incredibly triumphant Mazurka by the father of Polish opera Moniuszko;

• • The European premiere of “Musica Umbra”, written by Yale student Kacper Madejek, that won our orchestra’s Composition Competition for Polish composers;

• • The Belgian premiere of Weinberg’s Suite for Orchestra, combining, among others, a Ravel-like Romance, a Shostakovich-like Jazz Waltz and an exhilarating Galop;

• • Chopin’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 1, performed by Polish rising star Julia Łozowska.
